Another great trip down to the Texas Safari Ranch! I want to thank everyone who made it out for the trip and a special thank you to the great folks who run the ranch. Bryan and the rest of the family at the ranch did an amazing job making us feel welcome for the second year in a row. I could not have asked for a better group of folks to spend a weekend of fishing and eating BBQ with! You know your in for a good time when crazy red headed Anna Boucher comes along on a trip, and she did not disappoint any of us down at the ranch. Anna was the fish whisperer down on the ponds and came away with the most fish caught all weekend. Anna kept us all laughing as she would catch yet another bass or crappie and yell out the exact number she had caught and declared she needed another one because she couldn't have an odd number of fish. Anna also played DJ for the trip as she cranked up Van Halen in her new car as we all hung out on the porch after a great day of fishing. Maybe that is why her new car wouldn't start on the last day of the trip! This years trip proved that women are as tough as the guys, and was quickly proven when Maureen Donelan laughed off the little "present" that one of the local wildlife left on the floor of her cabin.
Thanks again to Bryan Ramsey for cleaning that up! Maureen and her husband Mike came on the trip with little prior experience of fly fishing other than a couple of trips with Sasquatch up in Estes Park , but left the ranch with many nice fish under their belts and darn nice casting skills between both of them. This year we also had a couple of guys getting away from the hustle and bustle of the real world to relax and slow down life for a few days. Those guys were Joby Sawyer and Jeff English. Joby kept everyone laughing with his one liners, especially towards Anna, and was just an all around great guy to hang out with. The battle to see who could talk the longest and tell the best stories ended in a draw at 2:00 in the morning on Saturday night between Joby and myself. I slept for two days when I finally made it back to Estes Park , but it was totally worth it, that was one of the best conversations I have had in my life and I thank you for it. Jeff was a last minute addition to the trip with his wife Lisa begging me to get him away from his hectic work schedule for a few days. Turns out that all Jeff and I needed to bring peace and harmony back to our lives were some biscuits and gravy with some bacon on the side. After we stuffed ourselves silly every morning we worked it off by four-wheeling all over the ranch in our trusty "mules". The next time a meeting is going on way too long, just think about all the fun down on the ranch and that should hopefully make it go by a little quicker.
Our one returning guest from last years trip was Ryan Beebe. This young man is the future of Sasquatch, because I fully intend on him coming out and guiding for us in the future. Another one of my favorite moments on the trip was when Ryan and I snuck off to catch the big bass that had kept souvenirs of both Anna's and Joby's woolly buggers. In a matter of minutes Ryan had the "big one" on and brought it to the shore for some nice pics before a four count flip in the air sent the big one back to it's watery home. We proceeded to show the fish how it was done by catching several more in just a few minutes, we were on fire! Unfortunately Ryan's father,Walter, was unable to make it due to a family illness but we'll get you back out next year. We all had a great time with Ryan and were more than a little jealous of have far and how good he could cast his fly rod, and how easy he made catching all those fish look. Ryan, don't tell Anna that you probably beat her record. We'll keep that between you and me. So another great trip with Sasquatch travel is over, but it is just the beginning for us. Next year we have a trip to Argentina planned and many more coming soon.
The travel section of Sasquatch will be getting a face lift soon and will be going by the new name of Castaway Escapes and will have a new home at www.castawayescapes.com for you all to plan your future fishing escapes. Once I have the new site fully up and running you can look forward to some truly amazing trips that we have in store for you. Thanks again to everyone who made it out for this years Texas trip and to everyone out there that has supported Sasquatch Fly Fishing Adventures for all these years. Without your continued support we could not have gotten as far as we are right now, and some of us would even have to get real Jobs! Thanks again and we will see y'all again for another great summer in Estes.
